From Displacement to Purpose

Evangelist Gai Bol Luom's story is one of resilience, faith, and divine calling. Born and raised in South Sudan, Gai's early life was marked by the profound challenges facing his nation — conflict, displacement, and the struggle for stability that continues to shape the lives of millions across the diaspora.

Like many South Sudanese families, Gai and his loved ones experienced the upheaval of displacement. This journey — marked by uncertainty, loss, and the search for safety and opportunity — became the crucible in which his faith deepened and his calling crystallized. Through it all, Gai clung to Scripture and community, discovering that faith is not a luxury in times of plenty, but a lifeline in seasons of trial.

Gai pursued education with determination, recognizing it as both a personal pathway and a tool for serving others. His academic journey reinforced what he had learned through lived experience: that preparation and education unlock potential, and that young people — especially those carrying the weight of displacement and cultural transition — need intentional investment to thrive.

Faith as Foundation

Throughout his journey, Gai's deepening relationship with Christ became central to his identity and purpose. He came to understand that faith was not separate from his cultural identity or his responsibility to his community — rather, it was the lens through which he could see both with clarity and love.

Gai's faith journey taught him that God sees the marginalized, honors the displaced, and raises up leaders from unexpected places. He witnessed firsthand how Scripture speaks powerfully to those facing adversity, and how a faith community rooted in God's Word becomes a place of healing, hope, and transformation.

This spiritual foundation became the bedrock upon which Y.E.T. Compassion was built. Gai understood that serving South Sudanese youth without addressing the spiritual dimension of their journey would be incomplete. Young people need not just education and skills — they need to know they are seen, valued, and called by God to something greater than their circumstances.

"I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth."

— 3 John 1:4 (ESV)

"This Scripture guides my work every day. When our young people walk in truth — understanding their identity in Christ, their potential, their calling — everything changes."

The Vision for Y.E.T. Compassion

Gai founded Y.E.T. Compassion with a specific calling: to serve South Sudanese youth and families in the U.S.A., South Sudan, and beyond. Headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee — a growing hub for South Sudanese communities with deep spiritual roots — the ministry is built to reach wherever the need exists.

Youth as Leaders Young people are not problems to be managed, but leaders to be developed. They carry unique gifts, resilience, and perspectives that the broader church and society need.
Education and Faith Inseparable True empowerment comes when young people are equipped intellectually and spiritually — when they understand both how to succeed and why their faith must anchor that success.
Community and Accountability Individuals thrive within healthy communities. Y.E.T. Compassion intentionally builds spaces where youth, families, mentors, and faith leaders are accountable to one another.
Culture as Strength The South Sudanese experience — with all its pain and beauty — is not something to escape. It is part of young people's identity and a source of strength when properly honored.
